CHALLENGES:

  • The Berkshire Book Award has all of its books nominated and judged by young people. Therefore, the cover design must appeal to the 11-14-year-old age group.
  • The cover design must also be approved by the Berkshire Education Library Service (a group of adults).
  • The cover design must incorporate the existing logo, which is a circle with a book inside. The cover must also incorporate the text "Berkshire's First Book Award Chosen By Young People For Young People" and "Berkshire Book Award 2009", as well as two sponsor logos.

W3Design SOLUTIONS:

  • W3Design initially designed twelve (12) different cover designs for the Berkshire Book Award. Each design used only primary colors (red, blue, and yellow) to give the cover a more youthful feel.
  • In the final, selected cover design W3Design placed the required lengthy text "Berkshire's First Book Award Chosen By Young People For Young People" in a light yellow color and lightweight font around the existing logo to give it a lightweight feel, and used a more heavyweight font, dark blue color, and bold placement for the "Berkshire Book Award 2009".
